In mid spring of 2012, Tomas Bird penned a handful of songs all with connotations linked to the murky realms of the sea, the ocean and any other bodies of forbidding water. The aim was to record with Q, a musical mentor and mixing desk wizard and release in between The Blonde Spirit commitments. After one of the usual lengthy discussions of UFO’s, Bill Callahan and other delightfully great topics, Bird and Mike Geist - also of the The Blonde Spirit – harnessed, using nothing but whisky and a crab net, the idea of recording more than just Birds songs; Geist would also contribute his share of wistful laments
to the project which was to be recorded in Birds home, and later finished at Geists.
Between Q, Bird and Geist…the once potential acoustic based project turned into a psychedelic whirlpool of lost hope, drowned souls and like all sea fairing tales, was then lost to the dark but strangely forgiving depths of time for after much searching, some of these salty dogs have now surfaced, unpolished but still bright, the salvaged vessel of past endeavours called Burden has washed ashore safely.
